Unciphered CEO still hopeful for chance to unlock $230M in bitcoin

The CEO of a crypto recovery firm that claims to hold the secret to recovering more than $230 million in locked bitcoin says the company is still hoping to persuade its reluctant owner to accept its offer. The Crypto in question is allegedly stored on a ‘military-grade’ IronKey hard drive and is currently locked away in a Swiss vault. This type of drive gives users just 10 password attempts before self-destructing and rendering anything stored on it lost forever. The drive’s owner, Swiss crypto entrepreneur Stefan Thomas, has reportedly used up eight of these attempts. However, despite Seattle-based Unciphered saying it has cracked drives similar to this one in mere hours, Thomas has turned down its offer of help due to him already having a number of ‘handshake deals’ with other specialists. Unciphered CEO Eric Michaud spoke to Protos about the offer and how, despite receiving no response from an open letter to Thomas, it hopes to persuade him to trust its Technology . “We’ve do...

CoinMarketCap launches ChatGPT plugin

The plugin is free to use and features up-to-date crypto data sourced from CoinMarketCap. Crypto data aggregator CoinMarketCap, owned by crypto exchange Binance, has created a novel plugin for large-language model (LLM) based AI chatbot ChatGPT. According to the October 11 announcement, users can access the feature by signing in to their ChatGPT Plus account and simply enabling the plugin , allowing them to ask the LLM on a variety of crypto-related questions. There is no additional fee to use the plugin , aside from the $20 per month subscription fee for ChatGPT Plus. "The base ChatGPT has limited use to crypto enthusiasts, as data is mostly restricted up to Sept 2021. ChatGPT's recently-expanded web browsing capabilities likewise have limitations in serving real-time crypto data," developers wrote.  The LLM is capable of generating answers for simple questions such as "How correlated are Bitcoin and Ethereum in 2023?" to "How do variations in token dis...

Bias in AI: What can blockchains do to ensure fairness?

Image
Experts believe that decentralized systems can help secure the integrity and objectivity of data being fed to AI systems, but there still exist very clear limitations. Projects rooted in artificial intelligence (AI) are fast becoming an integral part of the modern technological paradigm, aiding in decision-making processes across various sectors, from finance to healthcare. However, despite the significant progress, AI systems are not without their flaws. One of the most critical issues faced by AI today is that of data biases, which refers to the presence of systemic errors in a given set of information leading to skewed results when training machine learning models.  As AI systems rely heavily on data; the quality of the input data is of utmost importance since any type of skewed information can lead to prejudice within the system. This can further perpetuate discrimination and inequality in society. Therefore, ensuring the integrity and objectivity of data is essential. For exampl...

Recycle to earn, a new frontier for blockchain technology towards ESG goals

At the European Blockchain Convention, Circularr won the award for blockchain startup of the year. Recycling with blockchain was the pitch. 'Recycle to Earn' was the motto presented by Eric Vogel earlier this month while pitching his startup at the European Blockchain Convention, decades after he started recycling plastics and cans from his grandmother's house to earn extra money for a Game Boy.  Vogel's love for video games and increasing interest in the impact of recycling in the world are behind his inspiration for Circularr, a London-based company seeking to connect recyclers, manufacturers, and brands throughout a decentralized recycling ecosystem. Proper recycling is a growing challenge.According to the Plastic Waste Makers Index, recycling across the world is not expanding fast enough to keep up with plastic waste, resulting in greater chances of being disposed of on oceans, beaches and rivers than going to recycling plants. In 2021, over 139 million metric to...

10 ways blockchain developers can use ChatGPT

Image
AI is a powerful tool that developers in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry can use. Here is how ChatGPT can be of help. Blockchain technology has revolutionized the way we think about data storage and transactions, but it can also be a complex field for developers to navigate. One tool that can help simplify the process is ChatGPT, a large language model created by OpenAI. A language model is a type of artificial intelligence model that is trained on a large corpus of text to generate or predict text. It can be used to generate new text, such as in machine translation, or to predict the likelihood of a sequence of words. It uses natural language processing and machine learning techniques to learn the structure and patterns of the language. Here are 10 ways Blockchain developers can use ChatGPT to improve their work: Smart contract development ChatGPT can be used to generate smart contract code by inputting the desired parameters and conditions, saving developers time and red...

Near Project’s Octopus Network lays off 40% of its staff amid crypto winter

The remaining workforce is also expected to take 20% pay cuts, the project's founder said. Octopus Network, a decentralized app chain network natively built on NEAR Protocol, has announced that it will be “refactoring” to adapt to current market conditions.  As part of its refactoring process, Octopus network will let go of roughly 40% of its team, which accounts for 12 out of 30 members. The remaining staff will also be subjected to a 20% salary cut, while its team token incentive will be suspended indefinitely. According to Louis Liu, the founder of the Octopus Network, although he has lived through previous crypto winter s, “this winter is very different from the others.” Liu said he anticipates that this current “ crypto winter will last at least another year, perhaps much longer,” adding that “most Web3 startups will not survive.” To survive the crypto winter , the founder also shared that in addition to layoffs and pay cuts, the network will have to undergo a strategy...
